NCDC responds after 2baba slams agency for COVID-19 portal malfunction

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has responded to claims by legendary singer, 2baba, that he and some Nigerians were stranded at an airport because the COVID-19 portal was down.

In a series of tweets via the verified NCDC handle, the agency took responsibility for the portal’s malfunction.

The agency tweeted, “On the 20th of April, a system failure by one of the partner organisations supporting the management of the COVID-19 travel portal led to an unforeseen downtime. The technical failure was resolved following about 12 hours of downtime.

“We accept full responsibility for this event, which led to inconvenience for several travellers to Nigeria.”

The agency further seized the opportunity to reiterate that they had learnt from the incident and would strive to serve Nigerians better.

“We have learnt from this occurrence and continue to restructure our systems to avoid future events like this and serve Nigerians better. Our commitment remains to protect the health of Nigerians, by reducing the risk of the spread of the virus. This is why the Nigerian International Travel Portal was introduced by @PTFCOVID19.

“We’ll continue strengthening this process to make it seamless for travellers,” the agency tweeted

Yesterday, a frustrated 2baba took to his Instagram story to share his plight as he and other Nigerians were stranded at an airport because of the portal malfunction.

According to him, there is a compulsory COVID-19 arrival test portal, which collects N50,000 per passenger but has failed to deliver QR code. He noted that this got them stuck at the airport.

The singer also stated that several calls made to the NCDC office yielded no result as no one answered the call.

2baba said in the video, “NCDC; you people better wake up. You are causing serious hardship for people travelling. You will be at the airport, they tell you to pay or bring several things. What is this? What kind of wickedness is all this one?

“This office knows that people travel every second, yet, they are closed. We called their line, nobody picked up. What kind of evil is that? Just imagine Nigerians stranded at the airport because of some useless people. This is unacceptable. It is annoying. It is totally annoying. This is wickedness.”

In the Instastories he posted, he further captioned the videos. “@NCDCGOV This racket has to stop. Your useless and money-thieving portal is becoming embarrassing. @NCDCGOV Wakeup. Answer your phones.

“Ridiculous @NCDC compulsory COVID-19 arrival test portal collects N50,000 per passenger and fails to deliver QR code. Passengers stranded. Business and personal commitments messed up. Who bears the responsibility for this?”

Police under attack as BBNaija’s Kiddwaya steps out with four escorts

The Nigeria Police has come under attack after a viral picture of Big Brother Naija, BBNaija former housemate, Kiddwaya with its officers surfaced online.

Kiddwaya on Wednesday shared pictures on Instagram where he had about four police officers with guns as escorts.

This did not go down well with Nigerians who called out the Police for giving such security to a celebrity, while insecurity heightens in many parts of the country.

However, some hailed the billionaire’s son, explaining that the level of kidnapping in the country was enough reason for him to have such security.

This is coming at a time when the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba ordered withdrawal of senior police officers from EFCC.

Here are some comments gathered  from Twitter:

@4eyedmonk “A whole four police officers to a private citizen that can easily get himself akpu obi bouncers? Police, this picture shames the force and the new IGP.”

@Leosessy “What is the work of our private security outfits? Four police officers to only one celebrity is not morally right.”

@Debo “That’s the reason we’re having security challenges in this country. Police that’s supposed to be guiding ordinary citizens were attached to Dubious VIPs.”

@Ufomma “Any IG of police that doesn’t have as his number 1 priority the cancellation of VIP policing, beginning with men of god (cause they already have anointing), is not serious about insecurity!

@Thepublicdefender “All the lies about withdrawing police personnel attached to private individuals.”

@YahayaNeutral “Nigerian Police is for the rich and famous, Not for ordinary Nigerians. In a country where we are complaining of been under police and lot of security challenges, we have four policemen guarding just an individual.”

@Berbzz “It’s a big shame. If you have money hire private security.”

@DJ_Sp4all “It seems the Nigerian Police system is a private security system which is operated by the Federal Government. The highest bidder takes all. No wonder the common man is not adequately served. It is a shame.”

@negromaniacs “Not his fault tho, the system that made this possible is to be blamed. NPF has no respect. Now imagine the number of personnel across the entire country doing same thing to protect dt he rich. Thousands that ought to combating crime. Even Miyetti Allah has too.”

@Psalm35_ “We have private securities in Nigeria, why are they not using them? VIPs can’t use the police in South Africa, they use private security.”

@Ladeepee “Do you know how much he is worth if he gets kidnapped? Abeg let him use 100 of them if he needs too. Prevention is better.”

@Martolerix “If kidnappers lay hands on him, do you know how much in dollars they will demand for? Abeg leave him to secure himself and his life in a country wey even police station use chain to lockdown their generator from thieves.”

@Dique_money “Oh boy, three military grade guns, three magazines (probably 1 extra each), hundreds of rounds of bullets to protect only one civilian.Something is wrong somewhere.”

@YolandaMny “The problem is not Kidd using a security company that hires policemen, it’s your government paying your police service so poorly that they need a side hustle. Stay focused, face Buhari.”

@Abazeesi “Why do you move with all these guards, fear of being kidnapped? Someone should explain because I don’t get?

Your music career is zero percent, Shade Ladipo taunts DJ Cuppy

Shade Ladipo, Nigerian media personality, has taunted DJ Cuppy, suggesting that she is not good enough to be a musician.

Ladipo took to her Instagram stories on Monday to assess the personality and music career of the disc jockey (DJ), whose real name is Florence Otedola.

In the post, the radio personality extolled the entertainer’s charming personality while rating her character as well as values above 100 percent.

The on-air-personality (OAP), however, opined that the same cannot be said of Cuppy’s music career which she rated zero percent.

Ladipo said with her “solid character”, the ‘Gelato’ crooner would find “what she’s good at eventually” — suggesting the entertainer should consider quitting music.

“DJ Cuppy’s music 0/100. DJ Cuppy’s character/values 120/100. A solid character will take you much further than talent. Give the girl all her flowers. She’s legit abeg she will find what she’s good at …. eventually,” she wrote.

It remains unclear what informed her post.

Cuppy, who doubles as a daughter to Femi Otedola, a billionaire businessman, had earlier opened up on her battle with incessant criticisms, adding that she’s tired of people telling her how to live her life.

“I have come to a point where I’m like, it’s time to lock up because I’m tired of people telling me what I should do and what I shouldn’t do…Someone tweeted, Cuppy you’re too rich to be wearing the wigs you wear,” she had said.
